Today, Chester County District Attorney\nTom Hogan announced that his office would conduct a criminal investigation into\nSunoco\/Energy Transfer\u2019s controversial Mariner East Pipeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hogan\nstated, \u201cIn\nthe last two years, we have seen these pipelines rip through the heart of\nChester County. We have seen sinkholes created by the pipeline drilling,\ncontaminated well water, and some subtle and not-so-subtle bullying of Chester\nCounty citizens by big corporate interests. We expected the state regulators\nand the governor to step in and assure the safety of Pennsylvanians. They have\nnot. So now the Chester County District Attorney\u2019s Office will demand that\nevery aspect of these pipelines be conducted safely, or we will bring into play\nall of the tools of the criminal justice system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are grateful that District Attorney\nHogan has acted where our regulators and governor have failed to act to protect\nthe health, safety, and property of people affected by the Mariner East\npipelines.\nBerks County has not been immune to the damage. In fact, the Public Utility\nCommission\u2019s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement issued a formal complaint\nlast Thursday citing statewide concerns about the pipeline based on a leak on\nthe Mariner East 1 pipeline in Berks County last year. Meanwhile, Mariner East\n2 construction has damaged private water supplies and has exposed Berks County\nresidents to the bullying behavior of the company and its associates, most\nrecently evidenced by the threat of legal action against property owners\nregarding mechanic\u2019s liens. The Berks County District Attorney John Adams\nshould consider taking similar action,\u201d said Karen Feridun, Founder, Berks Gas\nTruth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
