I am reaching out to see if there are any job opportunities within Berks Gas Truth. I understand that Berks Gas Truth is a grassroots organization run by concerned citizens, volunteering their time to protest the atrocities committed by the natural gas industry in PA, but I figured I’d introduce myself.
I am currently the Canvass Director for the Philadelphia Clean Water Action office. I know of Gas Truth through CWA and I’m sure you’ve worked with Nathan Sooy. I have been working at CWA for close to six years. As of April I will be resigning as the Canvass Director, in search of new challenges and experiences. I am ardently against fracking and would love to continue my career as an environmental advocate.
I have extensive skills in administration, fundraising, leadership development, personnel management and community organizing. I would love to be a part of Gas Truth. Let me know if there is any position that I could fill and keep up the great work!
Thanks for your message! I wish we had the resources to pay people, (me included!). We’re pretty much funded through the Bank of Karen, though we have received some donations that help a lot, but don’t come close to covering more than getting photocopies made and paying for exhibit space at festivals. I certainly wish you all the best in your job hunt for work as an environmental advocate and will keep you in mind if I hear of anything!
I am a concerned citizen from Florida. I recently spent my summer vacation in the beautiful Pine Creek Valley near Waterville, PA. To my dismay my once beautiful summer spot and fond childhood memories of the place were ruined. As I was swimming in the creek all I could hear was truck after truck after truck of FRAFFIC!!! yes FRAFFIC!! You hear about Fracking much when you are so far away from it, but when i went home to my beautiful home state of PA I was shocked to see what is happening to PA. Is the state going to one day become the next Chernobyl. Please let us know what some of your fellow Floridians can do. Is there any local groups down here that we can get involved with and let everyone know that everyone will be affected by this one way or another. This land is your land this land is my land and it will affect everyone.
Hi Jessica! Thanks for your comment and your concern. It’s true that Pennsylvania is being ravaged by the natural gas industry. We’re grateful for help from our friends and PA natives everywhere. Right now, even though it’s not directly beneficial to Pennsylvania, there’s an important petition you can sign and share with your friends. On August 22nd, we’ll be delivering over 300,000 petitions to the White House calling for a ban on fracking on public lands. The Bureau of Land Management is considering opening up millions of acres of public land to frackers. Find the petition here: https://secure3.convio.net/fww/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=869. We’re also getting ready to deliver petitions to Obama and Gina McCarthy telling them to re-open the EPA investigations that were shut down in the past months. A LA Times story last week revealed that the EPA was told to shut down the studies by the Obama administration as the presidential campaign season got underway. That one would directly benefit the people in Dimock, PA and so many others where the EPA said the water was safe to drink, even though the results they were getting said otherwise. https://secure3.convio.net/engage/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&page=UserAction&id=8743&autologin=true&AddInterest=4141& Those are just two of MANY actions people can take from wherever they are. On the upper right of our site is a box to sign up for our newsletter. I share many actions there once or twice a month. And we’re on Facebook where we share lots and lots of actions on our Berks Gas Truth page. https://www.facebook.com/BerksGasTruth
Thanks again!
